The guest editor for this issue is Westerly's former long-term editor, Emeritus Professor Dennis Haskell. This themed issue, On Beauty, was first conceived of at a panel discussion during the Perth Writer's Festival earlier in the year.

Dr Sally Quin, curator of UWA's extensive art collection, was a member of the panel and has contributed a discussion she conducted with Pilat Mata Dupont, Helen Smith and Consuelo Cavaniglia. A detail of one of Pilar Mata Dupont's works has been used for the cover. This still, taken from her video installation, can be seen at LWAG's Bliss exhibition, which is being held in partnership with the Westerly Centre.

The issue also features poetry by Andy Kissane, Jennifer Compton and Michael Farrell; short stories by Deborah Hunn and Laurie Steed; and John Barnes' reminiscences on the Jolleys.

Winthrop Professor Ted Snell, Director of the Cultural Precinct at the University of Western Australia and Director of UWA Museums, will open the event, and wine and cheese will be served before and after his address.
